Join me at a favourite reserve of mine as we hunt down one of the biggest birds in the skies – the White-tailed Eagle.

Gone are the days when you had to travel to the western isles of Scotland to enjoy these magnificent birds – as a reintroduction project on the Isle of Wight has restored them as a breeding species in southern England over the last few years.

This quest takes us to RSPB Arne in Dorset. Jutting out into Poole Harbour. It gives us a perfect vantage point to keep our eyes out for the area’s breeding pair of adult eagles, as well as other juvenile birds which are often hanging around the area too.

It’s not just eagles we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for; thanks to another successful reintroduction project there is now a thriving population of Ospreys. Not to mention the Peregrines and Hobbies knocking around too!

We’ll be taking a route right through the heart of this amazing heathland reserve, on a path rarely open to the public, giving us an excellent chance of spotting the Dartford Warblers, Stonechats & Woodlarks that live here too. We’ll be taking in amazing views of the harbour where we hope to spot our eagles, but will also be meandering through farmland, woodland, and salt marsh as we build our species list.
